International Youth Day: Council Hails Resilience Of Nigerian Youths
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), an umbrella body of all youth organisations, has commended the resilience of Nigerian youths as they mark 2018 International Youth Day (IYD).
The National Treasurer of NYCN, Mr Uko Michael, made the commendation in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Abuja.
Michael said that Nigeria youths deserved to be commended and celebrated for their selfless services and contribution in all aspect
of the economy and nation building.
He said it was an indisputable fact of history that Nigerian youths contributed immensely during the struggle for the
attainment of political independent and restored of democracy in the country.
The treasurer also said that Nigeria youths were contributing to the growth of the entertainment industry, Information Technology and the business world.
Michael, therefore, enjoined all Nigerian youths to join their counterparts from across the globe to celebrate the day by showcasing
their talent in their areas of chosen careers.
“ By estimated statistic, there are over million youths in Nigeria which ranks the country among those with the largest
youth’s population largest in Africa and in the world.“
“The new leadership of the council will synergise with all relevant stakeholders to build a country that will be free
from religious discrimination, corruption and poverty.
He thanked the South-South and the Akwa Ibom youths for the massive support accorded to him during the recently conducted elective
congress of NYCN held in Gombe state.
He assured them that he would use his position to bring the desire programmes and development that would be beneficial to the youth of
The United Nations had set aside Aug. 12 to commemorate the IYD and the theme for the 2018 edition of the celebration is “Safe Spaces for Youth”.
